Barbara Wiseman Fox, age 92, passed away on March 21, 2023, at the Ogeechee Area
Hospice Inpatient Residential Facility. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 37
years, Robert A. Fox.
She worked for many years as a homemaker providing loving care for her family until she
started her 21-year career at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. She was
also very actively involved in both the men’s and women’s basketball program. Barbara was
their biggest and most loyal supporter. She retired in 1995 as the Records Supervisor for the
Registrar’s office. She was very successful in both careers, but especially in the role of wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was deeply loved and will be greatly
missed.
Barbara moved to Statesboro in 2005 to be closer to her family. She loved her time in
Statesboro and was very involved in the community. She was a very active member of
Statesboro First United Methodist Church and enjoyed membership in the United Methodist
Women, Dreta Sharpe Circle as well as the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. She also served
on the board of the preschool at First Methodist and enjoyed fellowship as a member of several
lunch clubs.
She was awarded the Deen Day Smith Award for her work in the community. She chaired the
fund-raising effort for First Methodist’s team for the American Diabetes Association and was
active in the annual walk for the American Cancer Society. Her most cherished honor, however,
was one awarded by her fellow UMW members. They selected her for the Quiet Disciple award
for her kindness and generosity in her volunteer work for the United Methodist church.
She is survived by a daughter Judi Robbins and her husband Barry, a grandson Brian Kent and
his wife Candace, a step grandson Jordan Robbins, a great-grandson Hudson Kent and very
special, loving and devoted friend, Angus James “Jim” McCranie, Jr. Barbara is also survived
by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
