Betty Purkey Carroll

Betty Purkey Carroll, age 73, passed away August 28, 2021 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Betty was born on September 16, 1947 in Greenville, Tennessee to Paul and Mamie Ramsey Purkey.

She was an amazing, loving and sweet mom and grandmother. She loved to cook, especially for her family. She loved doing all kinds of crafts but cross stitching was her favorite. Early in life, she had been a beautician and enjoyed practicing her cutting and braiding techniques on her children and grandchildren. Later, Betty became a Pharmacy Tech and worked at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Betty is preceded in death by Paul W Purkey, Sr., Mamie Ramsey Purkey, James Robert Purkey, Frances Marie Maynard, Helen Ann Maynard and Paul W. Purkey, Jr.

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren; Bobby Benjamin Carroll, Jr. of Augusta, Georgia, Candace Carroll Shackelford, Louis A. Shackelford, Louis Chandler Shackelford, Christopher Lynn Shackelford, Victoria Bailea Shackelford—all of Statesboro, and Gabriel Thomas Carroll of Union, South Carolina. Also, grieving their loss are her nieces and nephews, Richard E Maynard, Dwayne Maynard, Michaela P. Gooding, Michael Purkey, Sharon Owens, Steve Miller and her ex-husband, the father of her children, Bobby Carroll, Sr. along with several great nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service is planned for Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Fair Haven United Methodist Church with Pastor Jose Velasquez, Pastor Matt Waldron and Pastor John Forrester officiating.
