Charles Edwin Ranew

April 6, 1950 — October 5, 2021

It is with a broken heart, we announce the passing of Charles Ranew on Tuesday, October 5th in Atrium Navicent Hospital in Macon, Georgia. He was surrounded by his family.  He and his wife resided at Lake Sinclair, Sparta, Georgia. There they attended Island Creek Baptist Church.

Charles graduated from Statesboro High School in Statesboro, Georgia in 1968.  He then joined the United States Marine Corp in 1969 and served in Vietnam earning two purple heart medals. Charles was proud to have served his country.

Upon discharge from the USMC, he went to work at the United States Postal Service, working in offices in Statesboro and Savannah.  Charles retired after 35 years of service.

After retiring, he and his wife, Lynn, moved to Elkins, West Virginia for 16 years.  There they attended Valley Independent Baptist Church in Huttonsville, West Virginia.  Charles was a Christian and loved the Lord.  He was an ordained deacon and taught Bible study at the Elkins Manor for 12 years, serving in Oddfellow Lodge.  He was past commander of American Legion Post 29 in Elkins, West Virginia and Past Commandant of the Marine Corp League in Elkins, West Virginia.  He loved participating in all military activities and served on the Military Honor Guard with great pride.

Charles and Lynn returned to Georgia in April of this year to enjoy their grandchildren, great grandchildren, and life at the lake.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Ranew and mother, Elizabeth Ranew.

Remaining is his loving wife of 27 years, Lynn Taylor. Also surviving are three sons, David (Carol) Ranew of Statesboro, Georgia, Roy (Becky) Ranew of Metter, Georgia and Keith (Amanda) Ranew of Metter, Georgia;  a beloved sister, Charlene (Ed) Cress of Richmond Hill, Georgia; two stepsons, Parrish (Lora) Thompson of Charleston, West Virginia and Chris Thompson of Statesboro, Georgia; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 13th at 2:00 PM at East Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions many be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at stjude.org.
