Cheryl (Sherry) Smith Hendrix

October 31, 1945 — June 2, 2022

Cheryl (Sherry) Smith Hendrix, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Westwood Nursing Home in Statesboro, Georgia.

Sherry was born on October 31, 1945 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Spencer and Helen Conners Smith.  She was a graduate of Savannah High School. Sherry was a retired medical transcriptionist and was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro. She loved the Lord which was evident by her commitment to her Bible studies, reading numerous Christian books, and singing gospel songs. She also enjoyed going to the beach and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda S. Attard, and brother, Mark S. Smith, both of Savannah, Georgia.

Survivors include her only daughter, Candice Cope Cook (Jay) of Statesboro, Georgia; two grandchildren, Tal Cook and Hannah Cook; a sister, Karen S. Watts of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Gary Smith (Dorrie) of Savannah, Georgia; a niece, Mandy Rueschhoff (B.J.); a nephew, Brett Smith (Stacy); two great-nieces, Palmer Smith and Harlyn Smith; uncle and aunt, Joe and Martha Conners.

The Memorial Service will be Monday, June 6, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Deal Funeral Directors with Pastor Thomas W. East, Jr. officiating. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to the time of service beginning at 1:00 P.M.

The family wishes to thank Westwood Nursing Home staff for their compassionate care for Sherry during her residency as well as the support of Arcadia Hospice.
