Claire Frances Binford

Claire Frances Binford, age 91, passed away peacefully November 26, 2020 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 16, 1928 in Teaneck, New Jersey to Edna and Leo Trubek. In September of 1954 she married her longtime love and partner, Benjamin (Ben) Binford, who preceded her in death in 1998.

Those who knew and loved Claire will remember her as an adventurer, a person who always found ways to give back to her community, and a passionate bridge player. After growing up in New Jersey and finishing college at the University of Rhode Island, Claire lived in New York and worked at the United Nations. She then left her job to travel across the country with several of her girlfriends to live and work in San Francisco until she moved to Chicago and married Ben. Throughout their married life, Ben's job took them to Statesboro, Georgia; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Boone, Iowa; Cincinnati, Ohio; and finally back to Statesboro, where she lived happily for the rest of her life. In each of these homes, while raising four children, Claire quickly settled in to make new friends, serve the community, and play bridge.Then with the children grown,Claire spent many years traveling the world, always curious to learn about new places and people. At home in Statesboro, she worked tirelessly for the GSU Strings Program and the Food Bank, and she was an active member of the Statesboro First Presbyterian Church.

Claire is survived by her two sons, Thomas and Robert, her two daughters, Nancy and Susan, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Please join us in celebrating Claire's life. Visitation with the family will be at Deal Funeral Directors, Monday, November 30 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. A service will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Deal Funeral Directors. Due to the Coronavirus, we respectfully ask that you wear a mask and follow proper social-distancing guidelines.
