James (Jim) Carnett McGhin

April 28, 1953 — October 3, 2020

James Carnett McGhin (Jim), age 67, passed away peacefully at his home October 3, 2020. He was born April 28, 1953 in Valdosta, Georgia but had lived many years in the Bulloch County area.

Jim loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church, Statesboro, Georgia.  One of his greatest pleasures was attending his Sunday School Class-Serson.  He often said the members of the Serson class were like his own brothers, always loving and wanting to help.

Never one to be idle, Jim retired from Union Camp and International Paper in Savannah and recently had been working at DS Smith-Riceboro Lumber in Riceboro, Georgia. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed not only his home projects but would also help others with their home projects. When he was not serving others he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and camping.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Miriam Dees Fletcher; his father, Ralph McGhin and his brother, Warren McGhin.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Janet Steedley McGhin. Others that he dearly loved and who will cherish the memories they have are:  his sons, Jared McGhin (Jennifer) of Guyton, Georgia and Ryan McGhin (Tiffany) of Byers, Colorado; his brothers, Donnie McGhin of Valdosta and Frank Fletcher (Darla) also of Valdosta and his greatest joys, his grandchildren, Jordan and Mollie McGhin of Guyton, Georgia.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 108 North Main Street, Statesboro, Georgia 30458 or Fresh Air Home, P O Box 14144, Savannah, Georgia 31416.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
