Mikell (Mike, Marcel) Hollingsworth

November 11, 1960 — December 17, 2020

Mikell Hollingsworth (Mike, Marcel), age 60, went to be with the Lord December 17 after an extended illness. Mike was born in Statesboro, Georgia on November 11, 1960 to Charles “Ray” and Edna “Elizabeth” Strouse Hollingsworth.

He was a man of few words but when he spoke, it mattered and people listened. He carried a sense of peace and stability into any room he entered. Mike believed in stepping up, without hesitation, to any task asked of him.

He spent his entire life in the Bulloch County area except for the time he spent serving his country in the Marines. Mike was a professional commercial painter by trade and took great pride in his work.  He loved doing things that others might find unusual including raising freshwater catfish and shrimp, growing asparagus, and growing bananas. One of his greatest pleasures was taking Joshua out with him in his 66 Ford F100 “the cool truck”, spinning tires while jamming to old rock music.  Family was Mike’s priority and he spent as much time as he could with his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband and daddy—a hero to his family, their everything.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Elizabeth Hollingsworth; his infant baby brother and his uncle, Sammy Strouse.

He is survived by and will be forever loved and missed by his wife of seventeen years, Laura Bell Mallard Hollingsworth; his son, Joshua Ray Hollingsworth; his daughters, Brandy Lynn Hollingworth  (Thomas Cowart, Jr.), Rachel Lauren Sanders (Robert) and Heather Nicole Wasdin (Allen Lovett); grandchildren, Skyler Rae Davis, Autumn Ayame Terrell, Kayden Rae Wasdin, Asher Jace Wasdin, Haley Belle, Hazel Belle, and Owen Belle; and his sister, Patricia “Kay” Davis.

Funeral service will be Sunday, December 20, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Deal Funeral Directors with Brother Bill Buckhoff officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at  1:00 PM up to the time of the funeral service.

Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at go.cancer.org.
