Mooney Prosser

April 27, 1925 — March 10, 2019

Statesboro, GA

Mr. Jacob Mooney Prosser, age 93, died Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Willow Pond after a long illness. The Bulloch County native was a graduate of Statesboro High School class of 1943. He proudly served his country as a Marine during World War II. After the war, he attended the University of Oklahoma and Georgia Southern College. Mooney was a retired Postmaster from the Statesboro Post Office. After retirement, he worked with Gene Stuckey building government housing in Bulloch County and later worked many years at Hodges-Turner Funeral Home and Bulloch Memorial Gardens. He was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church since 1932 where he was a Deacon and a member of the Harmony Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Bulloch Wildlife Club, Bulloch County Historical Society and the VFW. He and his wife loved being members and serving in the Walk to Emmaus family. They enjoyed traveling and being a part of many mission trips with First Baptist. While at Willow Pond, he loved the caring employees and considered them as his family.

Mr. Prosser was preceded in death by his parents, Russie Lee and Mattie Lou Prosser; his son, Jimmy Prosser; a sister Myrtice Carey; and a brother, Marvin Prosser.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy “Dot” Prosser of Statesboro; a son, Mike Prosser (Debbie) of Brooklet; three sisters, Marjorie Brandimarte of Altoona, AL, Melba Whitaker of Fernandina Beach, FL and Myra Alice Langley of Oak Ridge, TN; a granddaughter, Emily Dixon (Dylan) of Statesboro; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. John Waters and Rev. Ricky Allen officiating. He will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Paul Whitlock, Billy Yawn, Danny Hagan, Roy Rountree, Robert Wiggins, Steve Pennington, Thomas Chester, and Dale Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Harmony Fellowship Sunday School class.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
