Willie Dan Gay

Willie Dan Gay, age 85, passed away on June 14, 2021 at his home in Brooklet, GA following a brief illness, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Gay was born in Augusta, GA on May 22, 1936 to the late Florence Allen and Willie Rickerson Gay.

After serving more than 31 years in the Air National Guard, Mr. Gay retired in 1988 but chose to remain the in Air National Guard Reserves almost nine more years. During his service, he received the rank of Master Sergeant working mainly in the Aircraft Maintenance Support Unit. After Mr. Gay retired from the Air National Guard, he obtained his Commercial Truck Drivers License and drove a truck for Howard Sheppard Trucking for several years.

Mr. Gay loved his family and would do anything he could for family and friends. He liked living a simple life.  One of his greatest pleasures was working with his assorted collection of farm animals.

Mr. Gay is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Ellen Gay; a daughter, Donna M. Gay; a son, Richard A Gay; three brothers, Edwin Gay, James Gay and Freddie Gay; and three sisters, Ruby G. Eubanks, Hazel Beckworth and Evelyn Brown.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan L. Rentz (Mark); his son, Daniel A. Gay (Stacie); four grandchildren, Joey Rentz, William Rentz, Jacob Gay and Lillian Gay;two great grandchildren, Marcus Rentz and Willie Rentz and a sister Nellie G. Hill.

A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
