Winton Eugene Wells

March 10, 1935 — October 3, 2022

Winton Eugene Wells, age 87, went home to be with his Lord and his wife on October 3, 2022. Winton, a Bulloch County native, was born on March 10, 1935 to the late Herman and Verna Hagan Wells. He married Dorothy Mae Wells in March, 1971 and they were together for almost 50 years, until her passing in 2020.

Winton proudly served his country for 4 years in the United States Air Force. He continued to serve his country and community for more than 30 years as a Volunteer Fire Fighter with Leefield Volunteer Fire Department (currently Bulloch County Fire Department). He appreciated the land and for almost 40 years he worked the farmland for Jack Lanier.

Winton loved his family—blood family, adopted family, stepfamily, and church family. But the one he loved the most was his Jesus. He was a member of Brooklet First Baptist Church and  had previously attended Leefield Baptist Church where he was an ordained Deacon.

Winton is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Wells; and his siblings, James Wells, Gary Wells, Randy Wells, Barbara Shuman and Betty NeSmith.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Elise Wells (Gary); his stepchildren, Teresa Scarborough (Johnny), Jimmy Stephens (Melissa), and Melanie Dunn (Mike); grandchildren, Wess Gay (Olivia), Johnathon Scarborough (Cera), Jeffery Scarborough (Crissy), Tabby Binion (Jeb), Abby Stephens, Harley Chalker (Price), and Charlee-Rae Stephens; great grandchildren, Anna Grace Scarborough, Analeigh Scarborough, Karsyn Scarborough, Tripp Binion, Carris Binion, Bree Scarborough, Weslyn Gay, Keslyn Gay, Alanna Scarborough, Lainey Scarborough, and Saylor Chalker; as well as many extra special, God-sent friends and extended family who were always there with prayers, assistance and making joyful memories when Winton needed it most.

The funeral service will be Thursday, October 6 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Deal Funeral Directors. Interment will follow the service at Bulloch Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Deal Funeral Directors.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Bulloch County Fire Department—Fire Prevention at P. O. Box 673, Statesboro, GA 30459.
