William “Craig” Griffin Jr., age 55, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, at University Health Center in Augusta, GA due to complications from COVID-19. He was a 1984 graduate of Statesboro High School and received a Diesel Mechanic Vocational Degree from Savannah Technical College in 1986. Craig was employed with Williams Brothers Trucking and loved driving, working there, and his coworkers. Anyone who knew Craig will fondly remember him as “Pudgy.” He loved to work on trucks and could fix anything. Craig was regularly seen driving in “Mud Bogs” in his earlier days in his Jeep, a truck he customized, and also his Blazer. This love was passed down to his two sons.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, playing with his beloved side kick dog, Jethro. But more than anything he loved spending time with his sons, helping his mom and dad around the house and yard as well as spending time with extended family.
Craig was raised with a strong faith and he is now in heaven, totally healed.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, N.W. and Celeste Griffin, Augusta, GA, and maternal grandparents, W.T and Wilma Clark, Statesboro, GA.
Craig is survived by his loving sons whom he adored, William C. Griffin III “Will” and Cannon Emerson Griffin of Millen, GA; his parents, William C. Griffin Sr. “Bill” and Joyce Clark Griffin of Statesboro, GA; sister, Barbara Griffin Scobey of Port Wentworth, GA; best friend, Jim Akins of Statesboro, GA, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Special thanks to Dr. Kyle Gay, the ER and ICU staff at Jenkins County Medical Center in Millen, GA for their excellent care and compassion for Craig and his family during this time. Also, to the MICU staff at Augusta University Medical Center for their wonderful care and communication as well.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life after visitation at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Deal Funeral Directors. Inurnment will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens. The services will be officiated by George Clark and Charlie Tyler.
